Teacher Apprenticeship - Baccalaureate Program

This two-year apprenticeship program combines college coursework, mentoring, and paid on-the-job training designed to prepare participants to become highly qualified and effective teachers employed by Miami Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) in one of the following career pathways:

Program Details:

To participate in the Teacher Apprenticeship Program, an individual must have:

  1. Received an associate degree from an accredited postsecondary institution
  2. Earned a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher in that degree program
  3. Successfully passed a background screening pursuant to law
  4. Received a temporary apprenticeship certificate:
    • A five-year nonrenewable temporary teacher apprenticeship certificate requirement:
      • Meet the requirements of Section 1012.56(2)(a),(b),(d),(e),(f), F.S.
      • Must be selected by Miami Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) to participate in the Teacher Apprenticeship Program
      • Must have been accepted by Miami Dade College’s – School of Education, the Florida postsecondary institution offering related instruction for this Teacher Apprenticeship Program
      • Must be appointed by MDCPS as an education paraprofessional
      • Requiring a commitment to spend at least the first two years in the classroom with a mentor teacher using team teaching strategies
      • Must earn a passing score on a Florida subject area examination for bachelor’s level subjects, which demonstrates mastery of the subject area knowledge
      • Completion of at least the first two years in an apprenticeship before being eligible to apply for a professional certificate
