Miki Yamanaka

Japanese-born pianist Miki Yamanaka has called New York City home since 2012, building an international reputation as one of her generation’s leading jazz voices. Critics praise her “light, expressive touch and solidly crafted, mainstream approach,” and audiences are drawn to her vibrant personality. Her acclaimed album Chance features her New York rhythm section, Tyrone Allen II and Jimmy Macbride. A fixture at West Village clubs Smalls and Mezzrow, Yamanaka has also performed with jazz luminaries including Antonio Hart, Roger Humphries and the Mingus Big Band. Known for her warmth, artistry and signature kimonos, she proudly shares her heritage on stages worldwide.

Jimmy MacBride

Since moving to New York in 2009, drummer Jimmy Macbride has become one of jazz’s most creative and in-demand voices. Named one of DownBeat magazine’s “25 for the Future,” he is known for his versatility, musicality and refined touch. A Juilliard graduate, Macbride has performed with leading artists including Terence Blanchard, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Jimmy Greene and Steve Nelson. He appears regularly at top New York venues and has performed at festivals worldwide, including Newport, North Sea and Monterey. An active collaborator across styles, Macbride has recorded on more than 70 albums and frequently performs with his wife, pianist Miki Yamanaka.

All concerts are free and open to the public. Live performances will take place at Wolfson Campus Auditorium, 300 N.E. Second Ave., Miami, FL 33132. Building 1, Room 1261. Performances will be livestreamed, except for the student ensembles.
