Back This Year!

Returning for a second year, the traditional daytime format of Jazz at Wolfson Presents will expand to include a special evening concert featuring husband and wife duo Miki Yamanaka and Jimmy MacBride on the piano and drums. They join an impressive lineup that also features captivating vocalist Shayna Steele, Grammy-Award winning trumpeter Michael Rodriguez and versatile trombonist Nick Vayenas.

About Jazz at Wolfson

Jazz at Wolfson Presents remains the longest continuously running free jazz series in Miami-Dade County. The series, which in addition to performances, includes workshops with guest artists, was founded in 1998 by former jazz studies professor, Dr. Michael Di Liddo who drew inspiration from Miami Dade College’s Lunchtime Lively Arts concerts of the 1970s.

Since its inception, the series has hosted an array of outstanding artists, including bassist and Jazz Humanitarian Award winner Rufus Reid, National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master saxophonist James Moody and Blue Note recording artist Walter Smith III. Di Liddo retired after the 25^th season, handing the reins over to Mark Small, the director of Miami Dade College’s jazz studies program.

Producer of the series for the last three years, Small is a trained jazz saxophonist who has worn many hats throughout his career; from longtime educator to performer, touring with Warner Bros. recording artist Michael Bublé and playing on television programs including The Letterman Show and SNL.

A Note from Mark Small

Few experiences have been as rewarding as helping MDC continue its tradition of sharing live jazz with students and the greater community. My hope is that this season will offer something for every jazz enthusiast and bring fresh inspiration to our community. By adding an evening performance, we aim to welcome those who have not been able to attend our lunchtime events and broaden our reach even further.
