Service
The President's Service Leadership Award (PSLA) recognizes MDC students, faculty, staff and student organizations that volunteer their time to serve their community. Award winners receive a certificate and a letter of commendation from MDC President Madeline Pumariega, and are invited to their campus’ annual awards ceremony.
Individual PSLA: Awards for individual service accumulate through a combination of hours documented in EngageMDC through individual service, academic service-learning, and/or hours completed towards club service. Service hours must meet MDC’s Standards of Service.
Award levels for individuals are listed below:
Student Organization (Group) MDC President’s Service Leadership Award (PSLA) is awarded by the President of MDC for registered student organizations and/or groups collectively documenting service hours* in EngageMDC
If your organization/group is ready to apply for the PSLA, has completed the specific amount of eligible volunteer hours within a 12-month period and the hours are submitted and verified on EngageMDC and shared with your student organization or group*, apply via the link below for the award you qualify for.
*To count as student organization/group service, 1) at least two members must be volunteering at the same time or on the same project (i.e., individual service does not count towards organization/group service), and 2) the hours must meet MDC's Standard of Service
**To be recognized at your campus’ award ceremony, please submit your application by March 31.
Civic Leadership
The Civic Leadership Award (CLA) recognizes Miami Dade College students, faculty, and staff who have shown sustained and impactful civic leadership in addressing community challenges. Recipients are individuals who identified a pressing issue, took initiative to address it, worked collaboratively with others, and achieved clear, tangible outcomes that improved their community.
Recipients of this award demonstrate:
- Initiative – Took ownership of a real-world issue rather than waiting for direction
- Analysis & Understanding – Clearly understood root causes and community needs
- Collaboration – Worked with others (students, faculty, partners, community members)
- Action & Leadership – Led or played a central role in implementing a solution
- Impact – Produced measurable, visible, or lasting outcomes
Individuals may be nominated by themselves or by others by downloading and completing the CLA nomination. Nominations are submitted to your campus’ iCED office and are accepted on a rolling basis, year-round.
Democratic Engagement
The Civic Action Award (CAA) recognizes MDC students, faculty, and staff who have demonstrated active participation in the civic life of our community by scoring a minimum of 100 points on iCED’s Civic Action Scorecard and submitting the required documentation and reflections on EngageMDC. Award winners receive a lapel pin, a certificate, and letter of commendation from MDC’s Office of Changemaking Education & Social Innovation.
Award levels include:
- Bronze (100+ points)
- Silver (200+ points)
- Gold (300+ points)
Upon reaching the point threshold in EngageMDC, you will see the award show up on your EngageMDC transcript, and you will be contacted by your campus iCED office to receive your award.
NOTE: Scorecard users can continually work towards each award level at their own pace and timeline. As each point threshold is met, the corresponding award is earned.
